Lick-the-bowl good!

Large is where it's at...

You know, that bowl of ice-cream that is so good, you forget all manners and stick your face right in there and lick the bowl?! That's all I could think of as I watched this cabbage white butterfly tuck it's head right into this weed flower for minutes at a time. ;)

Needing a blip, I wandered around looking for some inspiration and along came this little white beauty. Many of you may not have gotten as excited as I did... You might say, "A white butterfly... whoop-de-do... no big deal". But it has been a summer of very few butterflies around here; a very odd summer indeed. When I spotted this one I was very happy to see it and even happier to have it land and let me get close. All be it on a gravel road, feeding on raggedy weeds, just inches off the dirt... But beggars can't be choosers, eh? So I crawled along a gravel road doing odd poses to try for the best vantage point. The butterfly was very obliging in how long he stayed on each flower. This allowed me to squat, lay and do impressive yoga poses all the while tugging at my jeans... (They stay put sitting and standing, but I was asking a bit much today. Let's hope no one was looking out their windows.) To get this background I had to be under the butterfly aiming up at an angle. Remember, he's 4 inches off the ground dirt. Oui, not easy to do when you can't breathe. ;)

I had felt a little better today, aside from the whole breathing thing. But after all of the above, I think I over did it and lost some ground again... *eye-roll*

I chose the above for the background, but I liked two other shots as well. In this one the sun is lighting the butterfly from the front. Here, the purple flower added some color and the eyeball is more distinctive. But the blurred green of a distant plant seemed to set this one apart for me... decisions, decisions.
