Man voice

The list of good things for the day was piling up:
1. Was awake to watch Usain Bolt absolutely wallop his rivals and the world record in the 200m final at the world championships (night shift has the occasional perk!)
2. Have just finished a run of night shifts and now have five days off
3. Parked in the quick getaway spot when I got home from work
4. Read the paper and then had a longish nap snuggled up warm in bed, with rain and howling wind outside
5. Chose not to answer a knock at the door this morning (would have had to get out of bed) and later realised it was the Jehovah's Witnesses coming to visit (they'd kindly left me a note under the door). Best move of the day for sure.

So, it was only fair that there were a couple of downsides:
1. My present from the kids at work this week is laryngitis. Don't feel too bad, but I have developed an amusing case of man voice. Not husky, sexy voice, just man voice. Nice.
2. J and I were roped into an awards ceremony dinner tonight for construction work/civil engineering (his work was one of the sponsors) projects. To be fair, this did have some perks - a nice meal and free booze, but it required getting dressed up ( I even wore lipstick!!) and listening to a whole lot of awards and a 30-minute long presentation of what amounted to a motivational speech. Motivational speakers are just about number one on my list of people to avoid. Being preached at (always with catchphrases - tonight's was 'hire for will, train for skill!') about how to live your life is really, really irksome. Thank goodness they are few and far between in my line of work.

Enough of a rant though. Having time to spend with J without having to study is still a very pleasant novelty and tonight we had a whole evening, so I really can't complain.

Hadn't taken any photos for the day until we left the dinner. So, just a very quick snapshot of the parliament building next door.
