barrel tasting at myattsfield
I've blipped MyattsField vineyard before and today was another of their monthly events.
This time a barrel tasting of a variety of wines maturing in a range of oak barrels.(Please excuse the lack of wine language!)
The range of barrels being of French, American or Hungarian oak origin, age and 'toasting'? and chosen depending on the influences of those barrels the wine makers at MyattsField wish to impart on their grapes.
Quite fascinating as to the different 'flavours' and tannins the various oaks impart and even more fascinating to then taste and compare the vintages of earlier years against the raw wines before they are ready and balanced for the bottle.
The MyattsField winemakers..Rachael and the two Joshes...are such an innovative trio and right out there with their 'Left Field' wines.
Winning accolades and trophies and growing varieties suited to the hills but previously absent it is a treat to have all this going on in our own backyard.
