The Last Judgement

As part of our meander towards Calais we got to Autun deep in central France. It's a very old town, established by the Romans (again) and built on a hill with the Cathedral right at the top.

The picture is a detail from a large fresco above one of the entrances that is about the last judgement.

Around the semi-circular edge of the fresco are lots of little sculpted sketches like this that relate to the signs of the zodiac and seasons of the year. This one looked like he was crooning into a microphone. A bit ahead of his time maybe. I think he is both picking and eating grapes as well as crushing them in the vat. Who said men can't multi-task.
