A lovely walk in the Vale of Kent

After a busy morning clearing the greenhouse of the tomato plants, picking up all the apples and mowing the grass (note, not the lawn) we decided to go for a further walk along the Greensand Ridge and the Vale of Kent. An a very pleasant ramble it was too.

We started and finished at Sutton Valance, which is situated on the crest of the Greensand Ridge. The most people usually see of the village is as they ascend the hill on the A274 which is narrow and very busy, yet just off this noisy, dirty highway is a superb village with interesting houses and the oldest continually open coaching inn in Kent, been trading since 1348

The fruit harvest was in full swing with the apple and pear trees in the many orchards hearabouts heavily laden with fruit. Some super duper property out here too, many situated on the Greensand Ridge with extensive views south over the Vale and the Weald. Passed several reservoirs used in the orchards, one particularly nice lake was in a beautiful situation and we watched a fisherman land a rather large fish on the far bank.

On the way home we passed along the intriguingly named "Pleasure House Lane" but no house fitting that description could be seen.
