The Old Colliery

The development of Shawfair Park on the south side of Edinburgh is progressing and recently this pub/restaurant has opened. It takes its name from its situation near the former Mortonhall Colliery , one of the last deep coal mines in Scotland and which closed in 1998 . The nearby community of Danderhall came to prominence during the miners' strikes of the eighties. In due course there should be a substantial new town on the Shawfair site
