Pointe du Hoc
Packed up everything and got away from the holiday let with time to spare. It was a drizzly start to the morning after a thunderstorm in the early hours. We headed off towards the D-Day beaches and had a good morning wandering around. We've been to Pointe du Hoc before a couple of times (once memorably when we'd forgotten to strap son number two into his buggy and he was catapulted into a bomb crater - we are bad parents!). It is an interesting site and has been done up a lot since we were last there.
We made our way along Omaha, Gold and Juno beaches stopping to look at the various memorials and sites along the way. It is amazing to see how many of the emplacements are still visible on the beaches and in the dunes. Had a picnic on the beach at St Laurent du Mer and then headed back to catch the ferry.
Peaceful crossing spent reading the paper and chatting. Home to darkness and rain!
