Chook

Go, go, go!

Out to Lysterfield this morning to watch J and R compete in a kayak race. Was a battle against the elements for them, with a gusting crosswind that dumped more than a few boats in the (presumably freezing) water. For me, rugged up in everyone's jumpers, it was an opportunity to play with J's tele lens.

The skill range in the race was pretty enormous - division 1 were mostly national team paddlers who were really flying, and divisions 8 and 9 mostly school kids just trying not to fall in. The race was in a criterium format, with lots of fairly short laps of the lake, meaning it was very spectator (and camera) friendly. The only problem was, with everyone in together, it was nigh on impossible to work out who was winning anything other than division 1. We have to wait a couple of days to work out where J and R finished, but they were pretty chuffed with themselves for managing a K2 in pretty tough conditions.

This is a beautiful lens - took lots of interesting close-ups, but in the end have chosen this one as it gives more of an idea of the action.

Afternoon naps were had once we got home, and we're now just home from a massive dinner at Claypots with a bunch of good friends. It's a tough life...
