a Welsh castle
Drove the few miles today into Wales and visited Chirk Castle. It's over 700 years old - no wonder there was scaffolding up and stonemasons at work.
We walked around the gardens and woodland first. There is loads of Yew hedge, some cut in the shape of battlements. Two gardeners were trimming this - one was on a ladder and the other on a cherry picker. Once they get it finished it must be time to start again!
With the weather dull and grey we headed inside and toured the 'state rooms'. Then it was a climb up the tower. I had fun with the little Olympus, setting it up on steps and sills taking photos with the 2 sec timer. Interesting results.
It was raining by now so the next obvious stop was the coffee shop - indoors, not on the outside seating in the photo of the courtyard.
