Princes Street Light Trails
This blip truly marks the end of the summer and the beginning of winter for me. For over thirty years now I have been a member of Edinbrgh Photography Society. It has a large and varied syllabus but the highlight of the week has always been the Wednesday evening lecture. The society's calendar runs from the end of September through to about the end of April. And last night for me was the first night of the new season.
In the past I have been heavily involved in the society as New Members Secretary for many years then as President but today I am content to take a back seat though I still try to participate in the Monthly Competitions and occasionally put in entries for external competitions. Since moving out to Dunbar my regular involvement has been the Wednesday evening lectures. This means that through the winter months on a Wednesday my blip will usually be based in and around Edinburgh and often it will involve night scenes.
Whilst this is the way my EPS involvement affects my blips, I am hoping that the practice of doing a bit of photography everyday (blipping) will greatly improve the quality of my EPS competition entries.
For many year the society was heavily dominated by older men but I am really pleased that will the onset of digital photography and the general upsurge of interest in photography to report that there are far more younger members nowadays and a lot more female members. Edinburgh is one of the oldest photographic societies in the UK and runs the world renowned International Photographic Exhibition dutring the Festival. In recent years it has recovered some of its national prestige and regularly does well at national competition level. You can check out its web site on HERE
