This gate, chained closed, stops people going up a path that goes nowhere. If you are really keen on going up the path you could walk around the left hand side where there is no fence. Alternatively you could go round the right side where there is also no fence.
In simple terms it is a totally free standing gate, but probably vital to the security of the wood.
