Day 3: San Francisco
Today was all about beautiful architecture. Started off at Alamo Square seeing the beautiful painted ladies. As a religious fan of the tv show Full House, growing up I always wanted to see these houses in person. Today that was ticked off the somewhat "bucket list" I have created over the past decade. The neighborhood itself is full of period houses (some that just look like doll houses). So it's no wonder why this area is so popular. The park is very relaxing and has an amazing view of the San Francisco skyline as well. Perfect if you bring along a picnic. I had a scone and smoothie there and enjoyed the view. Next stop was a 10 minute stroll to San Francisco city hall. If you walk from Alamo Square you will reach the city hall gardens first which is meticulously kept. "Grand" sums up the city hall in one word. The surrounding buildings are also worth noting including the Opera Building, the Court House, California State Building, the Asian Heritage Museum and the San Francisco Dance Academy. Despite being surrounded by other beautiful buildings, you will not be able to take your eye off the city hall. Intricate details, grand passage ways and entrances (there are a few) makes this building simply a must to see in San Francisco. The picture also shows you the centre (dome) from the inside and the architecture. Visiting the city hall is free of charge so there is no reason not to visit this beauty. After the city hall, I went and saw another San Francisco icon: the Chinatown neighborhood. This bustling neighborhood is so big and spread out, one can definitely be mistaken for being in Asia. From handy craft items to all round goods stores, I am convinced you can almost find anything you ever need in this neighborhood. After the Chinatown, it was time for some retail therapy. Westfield San Francisco is mind-boggling with over 9 stories and endless shop with so many choices and yes they do get the crowds in so no wonder this mall is huge. Had lunch here (one of the best teriyaki chicken) I have ever had. After that, it was down to Macy's. They are the reason why most people regret bringing in packed suitcases because once you get here, they just zap you in with "specials" and 'sale' signs. This one stop shop caters from mid-to high end brands! Spent three hours there and only got home at 9pm. As usual busy and tiring day. More tomorrow.
