The stag in the mist

Sometimes, just sometimes, you get what you wish for and today I wished for a repeat of yesterday’s dull mists and a return visit to Lister Park. And yes. You’ve guessed. I got it. At times more than I really wanted. This magnificent sculpture of a stag stands in the grounds of the park, originally the grounds of the family home of Samuel Cunliffe Lister, a wealthy Bradford mill owner. The family were keen on hunting and this sculpture is in line with that interest. The realistic life sized statue stands on the left hand side of the gallery known as Cartwright Hall and was sculpted by French sculptor Pierre Louis Rouillard (1820 – 1881). One of the school of French animalieres sculptors, he was awarded the Ordre des Palmes Academiques and made a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur.
