Rhododendron Gully, Mt. Lofty

Today being our Labour Day public holiday, it seemed a good idea to make our annual visit to the Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens. This is now a great time to see Rhododendron Gully in flower.

It was not a happy visit however for Paladian who found that she had no SD card in her camera, and my camera only had a CF card which does not fit her camera. I did some great shot of the "angry walk", but that did not quite cut it as my blip of the day!

There were some magnificent blooms and great vistas in this popular botanic gardens, built in a steep gully on the side of Mt. Lofty. The Rhododendron Gully is a spectacular location for a walking, picnics and relaxing, it you have plenty of time to explore the gardens. It also has many camellias and azaleas.

It has some of Australia’s best collections of rhododendrons nestled amongst an extensive range of Chinese trees and shrubs. The rhodies come in a great range of colours from bright yellow, white, pale pink to a striking red. It was a very hard choice selecting which shot to blip today. (I have added my next 2 favourite photos to the blip folio.)

Many of the plants were still in bud and the Gully will continue to flower throughout spring and early into summer.

More pink.

Our cardio walk up and down the steep paths was followed by lunch and a great curry at the nearby old Crafers Hotel.
