Waterfoot Sunrise

End of Season

For me there are some tasks that always mark the end of the Summer season. The grass got its final cut yesterday (hopefully) ahead of the unsettled week that is forecast. I always get great pleasure out of cutting the grass for the first time in the Spring as there is something about the smell of newly mown grass that helps define the changing of the seasons. In the Autumn the smell of the grass is quite different as it is covered in places with leaves and, in our case, a variety of fungi.

Today was the day for taking our little boat out of the water and getting it washed down before it retires to the shed for it's Winter hibernation. I left it in later than I usually do as there was an exceptionally fine period of weather last October and I was wishing the boat was still in the water. However, the good weather is gone and the forecast is for it to get colder.

The mild weather that kept our grass growing has also helped our farmers friends who still have cattle in the fields, unlike last year when they were inside for the Winter at this time. Still, it won't be long until these young bulls in the field behind our house taste the last of this year's fresh grass. They are always fun to watch and are fond of synchronised grazing. They were even happy to pose for a blip.

Farewell Summer!
