A national shutdown
Bellingham Day 2
I've been truly blessed with the weather here, and Saturday was no exception. We had an early start, setting out for the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbour on the island of San Juan. It was beautiful.
One of Kat's friends works on the island, so we went to visit her. Another of their mutual friends had a visitor this weekend as well, so four of us made the trip for a great day out on a small island. We saw whales off the coast, spotted a couple of seals, played in the tidal pools, stopped for some lunch/afternoon tea, and enjoyed the scenery and sunshine. Of course, however, we couldn't go to some of the parks because they were closed in the national shutdown. Here you can see the effective measures taken to close the national parks. I did not read the sign telling me what I was looking at, I did not look at the deer on the hill below, nor did I admire the view. I obeyed the signs and pretended there was nothing there to be seen.
Fab day. I was particularly impressed by the jigsaws on random tables throughout the ferry. Almost as impressed as I am with the concept of drive through ATMs, but not quite. It is a spectacularly beautiful part of the country here though. Incredibly.
