Surprising Spring Snow
It's been a cold day in the garden city, but it seems the worst of it has been out at home. The cold temperatures, mixed with plentiful precipitation, colluded to provide the valley with a lovely dump of Spring snow - down to about 400m by my reckoning...
The hill country lambs will hopefully have enough feed and shelter to see them through, what's more the wind has been absent, lessening wind-chill and ensuring that the wee ones, whilst cold, won't really struggle.
The rest of the week is supposed to be a bit wet too - not good considering that the paddocks in the area had only just come right again after the last deluge...
This shot is from another of my favourite positions, looking up the Kaituna Valley towards Mount Bradley (just about visible) and Mt Herbert (invisible under cloud). And of course, there's some more livestock in there, just because :-)
More tech stuff, as it seemed to go down well last time. This image was processed in Nikon Capture NX2 and ColorEfex 4, then the mild distortion in the buildings corrected by DxO Viewpoint. The latter tool is one thatI'm trying out and so far I'm very impressed. It seems to work a treat at correcting lens perspective distortion, more so than any other tool I've used, even Photoshop. It has a very neat force parallel tool, which delivers excellent results. Highly recommended if you like Wide Angles and Architectural shots I reckon.
