Moorhens, at last ... ( Sorry Coots )
It was inevitable that, having written a couple of days ago about how difficult it was to get a decent image of a moorhens, because of low light, inadequate equipment and their wariness of my canine companions, Zoe and Baxter, that moorhens would become my next challenge. Remember my earlier challenge about six months ago to capture midges on the river !!
So armed with and SLR with a fast zoom lens and the dogs firmly tethered to me, I approached Seafield Pond again. As luck would have it, the moorhens and the swans were over this side of the pond. I was even blessed for a brief moment with some sunlight. I pushed the shutter button in Servo mode shooting off a series images with the autofocus firmly latched on to one of the moorhens. From a pictorial point of view it helped greatly that they were in close formation and not heading away at speed.
So when I came to look at the images on the computer not only was I delighted to find I had feather detail but even better I managed to get a catch light in the eye of two of the birds in sa few of the shots !! Challenge completed.
These are evidently coots not moorhens, sorry for the mis-identification
