Diary of an Edinburgher

Lucky Day

Shopping today with Uncle A. A beautiful bright sunny day, with dark clouds scudding by at a great rate - that wind was bloomin’ cold!

After shopping and car washing I went into town to collect a ‘post redirection’ form from the PO. I then had a quick wander to the High Street.

After all the fuss last week over Greyfriar’s Bobby’s nose being re-done (at great expense to the rate payers), and hitting the TV news (must have been a slow news day) the very next day it was back to brassy shininess. The Police were called in. Vandalism is suspected. Either that or it's been a very desperate tourist down on their luck, rubbing Bobby's nose all night... I think it’s a case for Inspector Rebus!

And Bobby’s not the only one to suffer at the hands of stroking tourists passers-by. David Hume has had his toe fondled for years, and has just put up with it. No petition has been organised to save his toe. Today when I went by he had his traffic cone hat on. And actually, as I walked round to get side on shot, the cone blew off and nearly clunked me on the head. Just as well I’d just rubbed his toe for luck...

PS The buying of the new house has just been concluded! I think we might need to crack open a bubbly - that’s been a long wait.
