Wingblade
“Wingblade” (2008) is the creation of award winning sculptor Eilis O’Connell from Derry in N.Ireland. She studied in both Ireland (Cork) and the USA (Boston, Mass). She takes the natural world as her inspiration. I don’t understand most of what is written about this work, but this seems to sum it up ~ “she uses the living world to evoke an abstract one.”.
The materials are carbon fibre and epoxy resin, the sculpture is some 400cm high and 750cm wide. Small edition of just 3.
Wingblade is just outside the Cass Foundation in West Sussex. There are usually two or three sculptures on the side of the road to whet your appetite. One of the others is "X" which I blipped Here.
You can also see half of the gate to the left of the picture, a work of art in itself, as well as the lovely old flint wall.
