Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse

With the weather forecast to break tomorrow, we decided to get out for a long walk and make the most of a fine autumn day. Our chosen destination was Southend but, as the tearoom where we hoped to have lunch was closed, we bought some crisps and soft drinks and headed to the southern tip of the Mull of Kintyre. Our destination was to be the lighthouse.

The small carpark is about a mile and a half from the lighthouse and over 1000 feet up and cars are not permitted beyond it. Since the lighthouse is only a few hundred feet above the sea, there is a fair drop and a very steep climb via the many hairpin bends on the return. However, the weather was glorious and even the climb back was great. The sky was blue with a few white puffy clouds and the hills rich with the russet shades of dying bracken. In-between was the North Channel, which separates the Mull of Kintyre from Northern Ireland. If you go LARGE you can make out Rathlin Island and the Antrim Coast on the horizon.

I was in Blip dreamland on this walk and stopped every few hundred yards for another shot. I had a circular polariser filter on the lens to highlight the sky and clouds. The air was clear and fresh and, with a cool breeze and sunshine, it was perfect weather for walking.

The only problem was trying to select a blip to post. I eventually settled on this one as I liked the contrasting layers of colour and the lines of the old sheep fanks in the foreground. If case anyone wants to sample other views from this walk I have posted a few more blips on Flickr.
