The Crocus Man's Crocus
Crocus mathewii, named for Brian Mathew who wrote 'The Crocus' my crocus bible, published in 1980. This plant was named later having been discovered in Southern Turkey and was formally described in 1994. The dark purple throat is unusual in pale flowered crocus, almost unknown amongst other autumn flowering taxa. It's a much sought after plant. I raised this one from seed sown ten years ago :-)
