Obelisk of Luxor

Today's the day ......................... to celebrate

Today is our 40th wedding anniversary!

We went for a River Seine cruise in the morning. The fabulous Paris palaces, grand houses and other buildings looked magnificent under a mackerel sky - and the river was just the place to see them from.

We went for a walk through the Place de la Concorde and into the Jardin des Tuileries. This obelisk stands on top of a pedestal in the Place de la Concorde and was a present from the Egyptian Government to the French in the 19th century.

The obelisk once marked the entrance to the Luxor Temple and is made of yellow granite. Missing its original cap, believed stolen in the 6th century BC, the Government of France added a gold-leafed pyramid cap to the top of the obelisk in 1998.

In 2000, the French urban climber Alain "Spiderman" Robert, using only his bare hands, climbing shoes and no safety devices, scaled the obelisk all the way to the top.........................
