What does the fox say?
Last night Graham and I made the long drive to Langsett to see the famous Langsett Fox Dance, which is held on that Saturday night nearest the full moon before the Fifth of November, called the Hunter's Moon.
At half past eight of the clock Langsett was awash with mysterious cloaked figures carrying flaming torches as the masked dancers commenced to march to the tavern, Waggon and Horses, and performed once again the immemorial dance of this tiny Pennine hamlet. The dancers were all masked as foxes and dance carrying flaming brands, and the dance space was lit by firebowls. Mr Fox and his dancing entourage drummed up an atmosphere of pagan revelry and we knew winter had arrived..
The history of this can be found here Mr Fox as can further images of this amazing event.
