Observations on Tourism, Pt.2
After the previous day of jostling in the crowds, today was the antidote.
We went to the Doll and History museum at Mustafapasa, near Urgup. It was the polar opposite of the open air museum at Goreme, and all the better for it.
Firstly it was almost impossible to find, with woeful signposting and none of the locals having a clue. Persistence paid off and we rang the bell to be welcomed in and shown round by this charming curator. There were about 6 other people in this old stone house which still had some of the rooms in their unaltered 19thC décor.
And there were cabinets stuffed with dolls dressed in outfits to represent historical Turkish events and social scenes. Firemen, street hawkers, sultans, a Dardenelle war hospital with wounded and nurses and so on. There was a great view from the roof terrace café.
It has to be said that it wasn't the most brilliant of museums but the small scale surroundings and enthusiasm of the staff more than made up for it.
So its back on with the Tourism lark and off we go again.
