Mime In The Marais

I awoke to the sound of rain on day three in Paris but by the time we were ready to leave the apartment, after breakfasting on curry, it had stopped and the sun was trying to break through.

We walked to the Père Lachaise cemetery, where the graves of Jim Morrison, Isadora Duncan and Maria Callas, to name but three, are to be found. The graves are mostly vaults, France being a predominantly Catholic country.

We then went to the Marais which I absolutely loved. It is one of the few parts of Paris that escaped Haussmann's modernistion and is home to a large gay community. Sadly Sally and Cilou had to leave to catch their plane soon after we arrived there. :( The youngsters went shopping while Clem, Charlie and I sat in the beautiful Place de Vosges. I made a vid of some musicians playing Jewish-sounding music, photographed toggers togging a couple of Jewish weddings, captured a beautiful black girl singing opera and, using my long lens, caught a semi-naked woman cavorting in front of an open upper window. The girl above looks straight out of the Marcel Marceau school.

As we left to get a taxi to the Gare de Nord the heavens opened. We didn't care, we have had a wonderful time. :)
