Nested Narratives

Hampstead Heath

The place Londoners have decided not to turn into row houses or council estates or a high street. It's been a common or a green space for a thousand years, at least. It's in-coifed nature reminds me more of home than anywhere else in the UK.

I live very close by. Today was mostly spent writing, but once the rain eased off I went for a walk through here. That bench is kind of hovering there, away from any paths or anything, so I went to check it out. It says:

So why, love, would we ever pray to live a century? The butterfly that lives a day has lived eternity.

The fellow it commemorates didn't manage to live a century, alas.
