The worst case of mass poisoning in human history
IMPACT Bangladesh have provided this mother with a SONO Filter, so she can remove harmful arsenic from her family's drinking water.
It is estimated that more than 1 in 3 tube wells in Chuadanga have dangerously high levels of arsenic. 1,000 people have died recently from arsenic related skin cancer in the District.
Our colleague explains how the poorest people have no choice but to drink contaminated water; 'The average monthly income of poor households in these villages is 3,500 taka – a SONO filter costs 6,000 taka. So the price of a SONO filter is much higher than their monthly income.'
The World Health Organisation has called the arsenic contamination of drinking water in Bangladesh, 'The single worst case of mass poisoning in human history'.
Our Indiegogo campaign is raising money to distribute filters to the poorest people in Chuadanaga. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/without-a-trace
