If It's Friday...
...this must be the Alaska ferry!
And yes, a bit of dramatic tone was used here to improve its looks, given the flat light. Today was nothing like the first time I blipped the ferry, when Blipbear and Kiwi were on their first trip to Bellingham.
I was glad of a walk in Fairhaven this afternoon, after the considerable challenge of figuring out how to arrange the shelves in our new refrigerator to best advantage and replace the food items that had been stored in Phil's basement beer fridge, coolers, and various other containers. Our old fridge had a problem that could not be fixed, despite three visits by a repairman, so we're donating it to Appliance Depot, a local non-profit organization that salvages used appliances, repairs those that can be fixed, and recycles as much as possible, while also providing on-the-job training to low-income local residents.
We bought a sturdy used washing machine at Appliance Depot some years ago, and Phil's beer fridge came from there as well, both of which live in our basement, but given that the kitchen is the first room people walk into when entering our house, we wanted a refrigerator of a specific size, style (utterly plain and white), and quality that we could count on for a decade or more, at a reasonable price. It was quite a challenge finding one like that -- there are more styles than the last time we bought one, such as French doors and bottom freezers, as well as the side-by-side versions, and the prices went as high as nearly $8,000!
Needless to say, ours was much, much less than that.
