Pie in the sky
Stormy weather today. Not as bad a st Jude but enough to cause havoc on the freeways as once again SoCal drivers show how not to drive in wet weather.
Well today was the day of the interview. After a smooth drive up to Carlsbad I arrived in plenty of time. It was nice to be back in a corporate environment again not having been in one since leaving Pfizer over 7 years ago. There was only the hiring manager in the room with me and another manager from Austin Texas on a conference call.
My presentation went well, they said it was very thorough. I also answered all the technical questions sufficiently I think aswell. However I shot myself in the foot with my career goals (something they already asked during my phone interview - in which I answered the same). Instead of making it seem like I wanted to progress in the job I was applying for I kind of implied that it was a stepping stone (albeit for 3 or more years) to sales/marketing. They even gave me a chance to reiterate my goals this time around.
With 20-20 hindsight it was a stupid error to make and one of inexperience in interviews. I was frustrated after all this work and effort that I could slip up with something as schoolboy and error as that.
Still, what with my inexperience in the assay even if I hadn't done that then I think there was a slim chance of actually getting it. Anyway, if they do want to proceed there will be another round of interviews before they make the final decision.
So back to postdoc ing it was and set up some experiments today that may give some nice results. However as with most things in this lab. Probably not. Also managed to avoid the lunch out with the lab to celebrate publication of a paper in a good journal. Wasn't in mood for celebration.
