Demolish

Old buildings give way to the new, but memories are here to stay.

The picture was taken at what used to be Station Square in Burnaby. Once the entertainment hub of Burnaby, home to Mike Karaoke, Cineplex Theatres, Red Robin and much more, the buildings are now reduced to a pile of rubble. They say they are putting up a whole new community with 5 spectacular towers, but it'll never rival the old Station Square in my heart.

I remember my friends and I spent countless weekend nights (and even a few afternoons after school) at Mike, one of the very few karaokes in town. It was also where I tasted my first mocha from Starbucks before it became mainstream. It was the place where we picked up groceries. It was the place where lots of memories were made. Not only was it the hip place to be, it was also home.

Station Square was alive with young people hanging out outside the theatres, and the crowds would spill over to the stairwell outside and into the parking lot. But ever since Metropolis opened the newer, bigger and better Silvercity theatres, things changed rapidly. The crowd dwindled, and the hustle and bustle was nowhere to be seen. My dear friends left town. I'm the only one who stayed behind to witness the demolition.

What wouldn't I give to have another karaoke night at Mike with my dear friends? I miss you guys...
