Llechwedd Slate Caverns
After setting up base camp yesterday, it was time for the first excursion of our boys summer holiday. Today we jumped in the car and headed out to Llechwedd Slate Caverns, I thought it would be an ideal place to start our week by combining some good old welsh history with the bonus of a couple of train rides. The boys were fully educated on all things slate by the time we had completed both the deep mine tour and miners tramway and I must admit I was left a little in awe by the scale of what was achieved without any of the mechanical machines we take for granted in modern society. Finished up with a swift pint of Snowdonia in the Miners Arms before heading back to camp for a paddle in the river and some exploration of the campsite. There is a lot to be said for keeping life simple!
