Coffee conversation

It seems like an age ago when I first heard about 3fe (a.k.a. Third Floor Coffee). The Irish Times did them a very nice favour and ran what amounted to a feature advertorial. It was a fascinating story about a young Dublin guy who'd won the Irish Barista Championships on three occasions and finished 4th, 4th and 3rd in the World Barista Championships, on the back of which success he opened this coffee shop.

It's just a little awkwardly situated, and not the sort of place you'd just happen to pass in the normal course of events. But my mission today was to get there and sample what's rumoured to be the best coffee in Dublin. I had a Trio for €6, which involved choosing one of the three coffees on offer and being served it in three ways: neat, filtered and with steamed milk. I opted for Finca Insul Huehuetenango, from Guatemala. It was quite bitter neat, and rather malty; it tasted very different filtered (though needed one small spoon of sugar); and was best of all with two small spoons of sugar in its steamed-milk-added version.

It's a popular place, and the man himself was there keeping an eye on things. I'll be back, for sure.

Oh yes, I've back-blipped yesterday.

p.s. How on earth did it get to be November already?!
