Wednesday 6 November 2013 - Roffey Church
I sometimes pass this church on my way home from work to escape the worst of Horsham's often awful traffic to reach the bypass! I have a lifelong interest in churches and their architecture however old or new, or their location. Speaking generally, I very much feel that you don't have to be religious to appreciate the craftsmanship, design and history outside or in. All Saints Roffey was built in 1878 and designed by the architect A W Blomfield. Blomfield was a prolific Victorian architect and the style you see in the picture is very typical of his work. He also liked to face the outside in the rather coarse rocky stone. This can be seen in the churches he designed at West Woodhay, Berkshire, Sheet and East Liss in Hampshire - all in a similar style, although the latter has a tower added later in 1930. Hopefully the shot is not too dark as when I leave the light really is beginning to fade now - roll on Spring!
