Really Splendid Place to Be

Today saw my first ever visit to the RSPB's The Lodge nature reserve. Located in Sandy, Bedfordshire, it was a mixture of exploration, photography, birds, flora, fauna, fungi, walking, climbing and all this in fresh air. Among the notable spots were Nuthatches, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a very close encounter with a Green Woodpecker, and an abundance of Fly Agaric. Today's photo is of the fountain and what was a swimming pool (in the 1930's) and is now a large pond, at the front the RSPB's gorgeous gardens and HQ. The day saw cool, dry weather and weak, watery sunshine. On my travels I spoke to many who seemed to be as happy as I was to be there. The overall feel of the place was magical. Not bad for a 'quiet' Autumnal day.
