Saith Llygad

Today's the day .......................... for an eye-catching building

This intriguing building is to be found in the little Welsh town of Ruthin - and is known as the Saith Llygad (seven eyes) because of the seven dormer windows in its red tile roof.

It is very old building dating back to medieval times and you can still see elements of this time in the internal screens. It is said that a certain builder from the Netherlands brought a load of bricks from his homeland to Ruthin, re-building this house in the Dutch style.

It was owned by some of the most influential families in the area in Elizabethan times - Richard Clough and later Sir Hugh Myddleton in 1595, who provided London with its first supply of fresh water.

It has been keeping an eye (or seven) on things in the town for a very long time .........................
