Barceloneta Beach

Today was our first full day of our holiday and we spent all day walking round Barcelona. It was very warm and sunny so it was definitely a slow stroll rather than a walk.

We set off about 10am and made our way down to Barceloneta via the Parc de la Ciutadella. We had thought about going to the zoo, but Orla had dosed off and we thought the animals might all be looking for shade in the middle of the day (because we were!).

We walked along the Passage Maritime de Barceloneta (i.e. the seafront promenade) and then stopped at one of the beach-front restaurants for lunch.

Then we made our way round the Marina to the aquarium, one of the biggest in Europe. We thought Orla would like it because she loves watching her Auntie Katie's fishes. Whilst inside she walked over 10 steps unaided. She may well be walking properly by the time we get home in 10 days time.

After the aquarium we headed into the Barri Gothic and visited Barcelona Cathedral. We then stopped in a tapas bar for a bite to eat. After a good wander in the Barri Gothic we headed up the Ramblas to Place de Catalunya. We popped into El Cortes Ingles, which is a department store, in order to visit the foodhall and buy some dinner to have back at our apartment.

The building in the photo is hotel W.
