Lemon Tree, Very Pretty...

Huddled against the
Mexican brick, ripening
to yellow in time.

Citrus trees were brought to North America from Asia. The first citrus orchards were planted in the Yuma area about 1890. Citrus groves throughout the state continued to grow in number until about 1970 when 80 000 acres were in production.Urban development flourished. Citrus groves became strip malls and housing developments. Today, across the state of Arizona citrus occupies about 20 000 acres and is second only in the nation to California.

Citrus trees stay green and leafed all year round. They make a wonderful addition to a yard. Lemons will all be ripe soon. We leave them on the tree until we need them. They don't get over-ripe or fall off the tree. At the end of the season when we are ready to head home, we pick the last of the lemons and dispose of them.
