Whirligig Festival
Vollis Simpson was 94 when he died, and he continued to make his elaborate kinetic sculptures until then. His whimsical whirligigs spin and twirl in the breeze. This one is a good three stories tall and who knows how much the metal frame weighs, but the whole thing turns into the slightest breeze like a wind vain atop a barn. Wilson, N.C., has their Whirligig Festival every year to honor Simpson, and I had fun there.
