With a Little Help from My Friends
As I mentioned yesterday, it would be great if MrB happened to come by with his tractor - Bingo. Thanks Blip! Even better he came by with a whole salami, which is made for him by the very best local butcher using MrB's deer meat. Peter had picked it up yesterday evening and the butcher said he would like to try it out in his shop. Not knowing of any of this, Angie was in the butchers first thing this morning and saw sample deer salami being offered and had the thought if it could be from Peter's meat! Today I finished off the Deer Leberwurst (Pate) which he had given us as a greeting for the family last week. It was delicious and I would never have guessed it was game. Again the pate is made by the same butcher.
He didn't hang around too long as he had a busy schedule and amongst other things needed to shoot two deer this evening for next Saturday's annual meeting of the local "Hunting Cooperative" comprising of all the farming & forestry landowners who, until this year, were legally forced to have their land in the co-op. It is now possible to opt out but it seems this is very rare as they want their crops & trees protected from game damage. The parish is the main owner of land on MrB's patch & so has the most say when it comes to awarding the hunting rights and determining the minimum shoot quota. MrB would rather have a smaller quota but has to abide by the agreement. He will not be attending the meeting (not connected to any of the above) but still has to provide the main course for the dinner that follows! I wonder if the parish representative, no doubt the mayor, has to declare the meal as "benefits" on his tax return.
After MrB had moved the log out of the way, Angie rode out with Rosie who she said went better than at any time in years! Fantastic. We adjusted her feed again in the last few days, perhaps it's connected. She is now getting no supplemental feed except 500ml of vegetable oil (2 x 250ml) poured on grass pellets so that she a) eats the oil and b) has something in her trough while the others munch away at sugar beet pulp, apples, carrots & ears of maize! Life is unjust.
After that we had an unsuccessful day trying to clear away the birch from yesterday, the shredder striking which it tend to do when the wood is harder. Have to let it "rest" for hours before it will restart. In Germany we are not allowed to have bonfires, even though Mr. Tschugg yesterday suggested we tried having a very big BBQ, well thats what you need to say when someone notifies the firebrigade and the parish council sends you the bill for them being called out. We didn't risk it although we know the chief of the firebrigade well and could have forewarned him!
Tried mending the garden tractor with the spare parts I had ordered via internet only to find they didn't fit. Grrrrrr. Didn't get the swimming pool pump/filters dismantling done either. The weather turns tonight, getting close to freezing and probably rain/sleet/snow tomorrow so all the outdoor jobs will again have to wait. Might get around to putting winter tyres on Angie's car which I still haven't done.
So while not exactly productive, several Up-beat things and the other matters can wait. They won't disappear while my back is turned. Hope all having a good weekend, especially Angelique's "Jammy" Blip acquaintances, the sort that can write: jobs can wait, plenty of time, no rush, can do Monday when all the others at work, dutifully paying income tax and filling the Pensions coffers.... ;-)
PS Angelique might like my newest idea for a cabriolet.
