Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

Late in the afternoon we, the two of us -- Mr. Fun and myself, sat on the patio chairs "sipping and sighing!" Watching the clouds move through a quick spectrum -- oh what fun to view all the of colors -- always entertaining.

Our day started early. We were getting the house ready for the "every-other-week" visit of "Wendy" -- a gal who has been helping me since the year 2000 to keep this place clean. She vacuums, she mops, she dusts, she cleans the bathrooms. She is amazing. She does the work that I don't have the time to do. So we try to pick-up everything from the floors, the counter-tops, just the clutter that accumulates every couple of weeks.

We were mid-way through our preparation when Mr. Fun's cellphone started ringing. It was his 91-year-old mother. She was on the floor of her bathroom and could not get up. She has been told by her doctor that she needs to be living in an assisted-care facility. She detests that concept. So this morning was just one more evidence that she is losing the battle of living alone in her way-too-big-for-her home. So Mr. Fun quickly finished what he was doing and headed to her home. All over again, she admitted to him that she probably shouldn't be living alone, but -- always the "but"! It is really too bad that she's probably going to have to fall, break a hip, go to the hospital, and then be moved to assisted living. This was just one more episode.

A short time later Mr. Fun and I connected by cell phone -- he was leaving his mom's house and headed with his new, well 6-months-old, Honda CR-V. It was time for an oil change and check-up. I went to give Mr. Fun a ride. So he hopped in my car and we stopped to enjoyed breakfast together at Spire's Restaurant on this Monday Veteran's holiday.

This has been a quiet and lovely day.
Good night from Southern California.
