Journey forward

By Popsicle

An interesting morning in the garden.

Earlier in the week, we had a bee hive in a bird nesting log removed from our garden, and at the same time the bee-keeper opened the lid of our neighbour's water meter box where there was also an established hive. He said to leave the hive alone for 48 hours, and the bees would all move off.
This they did, and more in hope than anything else, I said to my wife it would be nice if the honeycomb would attract any honeyguides.
I moved the wax combs into the garden where we could observe them from the patio, and waited in anticipation.
Well, we have been blessed with visits from both the Greater and Lesser Honeyguides. The Lesser being the first of its kind we have had in the garden in 20 years of living here.
The collage depicts some of the birds seen from our patio today - clockwise from top left:
Cape Robin-chat (Cossypha caffra) and Greater Honeyguide (Indicator indicator).
Rock Doves (Columba livia).
Lesser Honeyguide (Indicator minor).
African Olive-pigeon Columba arquatrix).
Karoo Thrush (Turdus smithi).
