The (brief) Pelican
Sadly we had to leave Naivasha today because of the double-booking, however we were taken off to a rather fancy country house to finish the last part of our meeting. Although the mess up about bookings has been a bit of a hassle, they have compensated us very well, by finding space for us in another of their hotels. However the day started with the monkey terror again, countered by this very serene pelican that has come to visit me each morning, its wonderful colours lighting tip as the sun rises.
Tomorrow we're putting all our brain power together to reflect and plan strategically how we'll work on the terrible protection issues affected hundreds of thousands of people across eastern Congo. We know our current activities are having an impact, helping people stay a safer in one of the most dangerous parts of the world, and - if the worst does happen and they are attacked or assaulted - making sure they get the care they need quickly and safely. We'd like to expand that to tackle some of the underlying issues that keep people in such a difficult and dangerous situation and bring about a sustainable change. Bringing our staff out of their day to day battles with logistics, officials, and travelling around a vast swathe of rainforest where there are very few roads, I hope we can help them to take a step back and do some planning for the bigger vision.
