The Black Sheep Inn, Sheep Street, Petersfield
What can you do and photograph on a gloomy Sunday? Well Mum and I had lunch at the cafe of an independent nusery at Trotton and after that we had the choice of either going to Midhurst or to Petersfield - so we chose the latter as we had not been there for some time and a chance to wander around.
Sheep Street is a short narrow lane leading off the main square and contains a number of interesting old buildings. My ancestors ran a pub in Hertfordshire 100 years ago and this smart frontage seemed appropriate with that in mind, and that it seemed to stand out and brighten up all the gloom of a dull November afternoon. This pub has a very nice sign with woolsacks, a black sheep and a medieval wool merchant wearing tunic, hose, pointy shoes and hood with long end known as a Liripipe. (My interest in costume is creeping out here!!)
