Old Farm Cottage - Mankinholes
Beautiful day today - but quite chilly. Sub-zero overnight and the lightest dusting of snow early morning.
Had a walk around Mankinholes (which is where I grew up) and relived a few memories.
This is Old Farm Cottage, which is a late 16th century cottage. Note the mounting block alongside the lane.
The unusual stone pyramid thing on the top of the wall (centre of picture) is where the farmer would put the milk delivery to keep the sun off it and stop birds and cats getting to it.
Mankinholes is a lovely little village on the old packhorse route between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Good walking area :-)
