Dancing ravens

We spent the morning walking the beach in Pacific Rim National Park nearby. A huge area of land and sea stretching far up the coastal inlets and forests here, continuing further out to sea in the Broken Group Islands. Away from the road here much of this is true wilderness. Haunted by wild creatures still. Bear and cougars, orca whales and sea lions, eagles and ravens. There are even signs cautioning 'dogs on a leash, area inhabited by wolves'. I love it, and though I have yet to ever see a wolf. Their mere presence thrills me and make me happy. The embodiment of wilderness and refuge of big wild nature. An increasingly endangered state in our world today, but here I am and further up this coast B.C. just gets wilder and wilder, increasingly remote and trackless. It sets my imagination to wander...

We meandered the marshy world of a bog and huddled together in the calm of the dunes watching ravens dance in the wind. Listening to the waves crash on the beach and gazing out on the Pacific before beginning the journey back to Victoria en route to Vancouver. A long day it was, broken up by a much anticipated dose of curry chips and fried ice cream, yup. Eventually we made it to the ferry and crossed over to Vancouver late at night only to arrive to a circus of drunks dominating the downtown streets. A world away from the misty forests and dancing ravens we began our day with. A bizarre introduction to this city and a pricey room to boot, but too tired to protest. Mushy minds and sleepy eyes. Arrival finally in Vancouver BC.
