Tree climbing lion!

Today we had a shorter drive and mostly paved road thru Fort Portal ( where there was a wonderful craft shop!:-)) and arrived at the lodge in Queen Elizabeth national park for lunch. The afternoon activity was a tour of the centuries old salt mining operation on the nearby lake. A job one wouldn't wish on anyone ! And then an amazing sight of 1000 plus flamingos on a different lake . They breed in Kenya and arrive to this spot twice a year on the 2nd day if the rainy season (oct) and return to Kenya in the dry season. I thot aha there's the blip for today but it got upstaged on our game drive just before dark ( the day is about 6:30 to 6:30 every day here on the equator) when our guide took us to 3 male lions close to the road - this black maned tree climbing lion was IN THE TREE!! About 8 feet away!! We watched as he slowly and awkwardly climbed down, walked about 20 feet, and lay down to sleep with his buddies who were asleep next to the road. I think lions sleep most of the day. They only kill to eat. And they look well fed. They are being studied here in the park and have lots of habitat for now....

I have back blipped 2 days ago (before the chimp) if you are interested.... Our place in the rainy mountains with no electricity. Apparently it has come not too far away from there now but no one seems to know what to do with it. - cooking is still traditionally over a fire. - largely charcoal ( resulting in unfortunate loss of too many trees)
