Blustery curtains
There was a bitingly cold wind as I set off to walk to my yoga class and it was still there when I returned home! Never mind, the dogs were eager to get off for their walk and today i took the precaution of doubling the layers and including a warm neck and mouth muffler - what I omitted to put on, however, was a pair of waterproof trousers as there was no sign whatsoever of rain.
The minute I stepped out of the car and set the dogs free I noticed the dark sky over the snow spattered hills and a rainbow - not a good sign. Pulling all my warm clothing tighter around me and feeling smug that i had remembered the muffler, I set off. Fifteen minutes later I noticed that the hills were rapidly disappearing from view, being enveloped by fast moving snow filled 'clouds' which were sweeping across my line of vision obviously depositing showers as they passed. The dogs were having a wonderful time and seemed even more excited than usual due to the high winds and I decided to batten down the hatches and continue. A further ten minutes and I had this view where the remaining shaft of light from the sun caught the larches and produced a faint rainbow against the threatening sky. Merely minutes later the full force of the storm hit sideways, throwing sleet at me so hard that it rendered my walking trousers soaking wet in seconds and my legs freezing cold. I know you must think me mad but I continued - i couldn't get any wetter or colder - but by the time I returned to the car my legs were so cold that I had trouble bending them into the driver's seat!
We are all dry and warm now and I am not going out again today.
