Trade-offs

We have been having rainy dampish weather...Until today! The morning dawned clear but with a killing frost. without the cloud cover to act as a blanket to hold in the warmth temperatures dropped. I had to breakout the new scraper to be able to drive my honey to work. The sun still wasn't up until I began the drive homeward.

Now we don't get frost every morning. It isn't a rare event but we don't necessarily plan for it when we head out. I once met a person who had moved from Boston to our part of the world who bemoaned our lack of seasons. I protested, "we have lovely fall colors, there are hot summer days, we get snow"(most years). "NO!" He replied, "any place it can be 55 degrees (13degrees Celsius ) and raining any day of the year does not have seasons!" And I had to agree. I couldn't think of a time when I could guarantee either the high or low temperature of the day might not be this mystic number.

This photo of my lithadora showed the frost beautifully, had the few stray leaves for color, and was taken before my hands became numb. There is even evidence of the day's brightness. After the day warms a bit I'll be able to get out and round up the last of the leaves and perhaps do a bit of trimming. It is still early here to trim the roses for the winter, but my junipers are fair game in all seasons.
