Staircase

This is not The Kremlin nor is it The Vatican as seen in the films An English Man Abroad and Heavenly Pursuits. The elaborate marble staircase has been used in several films but is actually part of the city council headquarters of the Glasgow City Chambers. Inside this magnificent building are impressive symbols of Glasgow’s political strength and historical wealth of the time when it was built in 1888. It is quite a contrast to the municipal buildings of more recent times and to the modern architecture in yesterday’s blip.
